In traditional rootwork, a piece is kept in a mojo bag, pocket, or purse so your words carry weight and doors open in your favor, making it a faithful companion for job interviews, negotiations, games of chance, and any day you stand before someone in authority. It is the traditional partner of High John the Conqueror root, and the two are often carried together.

Folklore Story
Old riverboat lore tells of a gambler down to his last coin who was handed a rough piece of galangal root by an elderly rootworker in New Orleans. She told him to carry it against his skin and speak his intentions plainly. By the end of the week his luck had turned so completely that other players began asking what he carried in his pocket — and "Little John" became the quiet secret of gamblers, salesmen, and defendants hoping the court would hear them kindly.

Attributes

Gender: Masculine

Planet: Mars

Element: Fire

Powers: Luck, Success, Court Cases, Money Drawing, Protection, Personal Power

Pairings & Uses

Candles: Set root pieces around green or gold candles dressed with bay leaf and cinnamon to draw steady luck and open roads.

Baths: Add a piece to a ritual bath or floor wash with basil and a splash of whiskey, in the old style, before a big meeting, hearing, or wager.

Sachets: Carry a piece in a green or red flannel mojo bag with a pinch of five-finger grass and a silver dime — the classic court-case and luck hand.

Add a Touch of Magic
Carry a little luck of your own — order your Little John to Chew root today and keep this time-honored conjure companion close.

Usage Warning
For external use only.
